Mizuho financial Group and IBM Japan have agreed to test blockchain technology for use in settlement business with virtual currency to provide a lower cost and more efficient transaction system to customers.

The company said that it will explore the feasibility of blockchains with virtual currency in business using IBM Japan’s advanced applications development support service, IBM Garage.

Leveraging on IBM Japan’s knowledge in global business services and support, Mizuho will build a common platform to reform its development style such as designing and developing business applications using blockchains.

Mizuho said it is planning to create new financial business to effectively tackle with rapid technological evolution through feasibility studies on blockchain technology or virtual currency.
