MasterCard has partnered with Points International, a global loyalty currency management provider, to offer cardholders with enhanced rewards capabilities to redeem, exchange and trade their rewards points.

The enhanced rewards capabilities were previously not available to members of current credit card-based rewards programmes.

The partnership will enable issuing banks that participate in the MasterCard Rewards Platform to deliver greater flexibility to consumers through exchange and trade of airline miles, hotel points and other loyalty currencies.

MasterCard Loyalty Solutions group executive, Nandan Mer, said: "Consumers have said loudly and clearly that they want increased flexibility with their rewards.

"Our enhanced solution delivers just that – the ability to exchange, trade, buy and gift rewards points. We believe this truly unique and superior redemption experience delivers even more value to all involved."

The enhanced rewards programme capabilities are expected to be made available later this year, after the initial integration.
