Ed McLaughlin, chief emerging payments officer
at MasterCard, said: “The collaboration with Intel will deliver
enhanced security and faster checkout – with the convenience of a
simple click or tap.”
The solution has the potential to progress
with Intel being a dominant player in Microsoft-based computers
while it offers an alternative to more cumbersome payment solutions
such as tokens.
“This is a further evolution of the capacity
of chip cards and has the potential of triggering a new wave of
collaborative cross-industry innovation that has the potential to
expend further from transaction to identity authentication for a
wider range of financial services through digital channels,” said
Francesco Burelli, partner at consultancy Value Partners. “This may
well extend to a number of devices beyond computing into
mobile.”
