British retailer Marks and Spencer (M&S) is planning to roll out a new card-based loyalty programme, provisionally called Sparks, in autumn this year.
The Sparks scheme aims to reward food, general merchandise and clothing customers with exclusive benefits and personalised offers rather than awarding points for every pound spent.
The programme, which is currently in testing phase, will be trialled on a small number of shoppers before being launched.
M&S already operates a points-based loyalty scheme for customers who have an M&S Bank credit or debit card, where customers can get a point for every pound spent.
In May 2015, the company has reported an increase in annual profit for the first time in four years and promised to return excess cash to shareholders. In 2014, M&S has moved its website from a platform provided by Amazon to its own platform.
