The feature will be available in AI-powered checkout for US merchants already live with Klarna through Stripe. This will apply where AI shopping agents support the ability to present flexible payments at checkout.

Klarna positioned the integration as a response to a limitation in agentic commerce. It said AI shopping agents have typically defaulted to card-on-file payments by design. Klarna said this can prevent alternative payment methods, including BNPL, from being offered in automated checkout, reducing consumer choice.

Stripe’s Shared Payment Tokens are designed for agentic commerce and allow AI agents to initiate purchases using a customer’s preferred payment method without accessing the customer’s payment details. Klarna’s participation will enable flexible payment options, including BNPL, to be offered through the same permissioned layer, the BNPL provider said.

Merchants that already offer Klarna through Stripe, no additional integration will be required.

Klarna chief commercial officer David Sykes said: “The infrastructure being built for agentic commerce will define online checkout for the next decade.

“As AI agents begin purchasing on consumers’ behalf, it’s critical that flexible payment options remain available. By supporting Stripe’s Shared Payment Tokens, we’re ensuring Klarna is embedded in this next generation of checkout experiences from day one.”

Klarna said it expects more integrations as AI agents increasingly purchase on consumers’ behalf. The company said the goal is to keep interest-free payment options available across shopping experiences.

Stripe Payments head Kevin Miller said: “Our Shared Payment Tokens will soon support Klarna, enabling AI agents to offer buy now, pay later payment options to buyers at checkout. By bringing Klarna to agentic transactions, we are helping businesses lift conversion while giving buyers more flexibility and control in how they pay.”

In December 2025, Klarna announced that its flexible payment products are available to Apple Pay users in Italy and France.
