Vodafone and CartaSi will release a prepaid
contactless payment card, called Vodafone Smart Pass, in Italy this
month.

The Vodafone Smart Pass will both enable

December at about all 900 Vodafone shops, as well as at McDonald’s,
supermarket chain Esselunga, Decathlon, book shop La Feltrinelli
and Autogrill.

It will be a debit card that will be issued by
the Italian People’s bank Institute and MasterCard in co-operation
with Vodafone and CartaSi.

The card will be linked to the card
holder’s Vodafone phone number, who will then be able to make
contactless mobile purchases.

In addition, the Vodafone Smart Pass supports
the Vodafone You loyalty scheme,  one of the biggest in Europe
in terms of registered users.

This is one of the first products in Italy
that combines a physical payment card with a contactless mobile
payment option.

Luba Manolova, special channels manager at
Vodafone Italy, told Cards International: “Our goal with
this product is to improve the customers experience, giving to our
users a dedicated treatment, and to take advantage of the most
recent technologies.”

“Using Vodafone Smart Pass, our customers will
be recognised every time they will step into our shops, which will
enable staff to offer them the best offer according to their
profile”.

“We are also working hard to offer them, as
soon as possible, several new services like mobile couponing or
geo-localisation related utilities.”
