Tech giant Apple has launched its mobile payment solution, Apple Pay, in Italy with support of financial institutions.
With the latest move, MasterCard credit or debit card issued by Wirecard’s mobile payment solution boon, Carrefour Bank and Unicredit will allow customers to use their cards with a seamless experience through their Apple devices.
When customers add credit or debit card to Apple Pay, neither the device nor Apple servers store the actual card numbers; instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on their device. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
MasterCard credit or debit card support to Apple Pay is powered by secure payment system MasterCard Digital Enablement Service (MDES). In addition, Apple Pay has integrated additional security features, including its biometric technology Touch ID to authorise every contactless payment.
Users of iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, and Apple Watch can make payments at almost every shop wherever contactless payments are accepted. They can also make payments within apps or Safari using iPhone 6 and later, iPhone SE, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 and later.
MasterCard division president of Italy and Greece Paolo Battiston said: “Apple Pay’s launch in our country is going to fasten mobile payments’ use for millions of consumers, who are now able to pay contactlessly with their Apple devices.
