Bitcoin wallet iPayYou has launched a new service that allows users to make peer-to-peer payments over Twitter.

Dubbed Pay-by-Twitter, the new service will enable users to send money by simply entering the recipient's Twitter handle instead of an email or bitcoin address.

Once the payment is sent, the recipient will receive a tweet letting the payee know that they have received a payment that will include a link to the iPayYou website, the company said.

The Seattle-based company, created by former Amazon executive Gene Kavner, already enables users to send bitcoin through email.

Kavner said: “Twitter is one of the most widely used social media networks worldwide and despite the speed of technological innovation in the 21st Century, no other full-service bitcoin wallet offered this feature until now. With the new Pay-by-Twitter feature, iPayYou continues to offer consumers with easy ways to use bitcoin as a payment method in everyday life, which has been our mission from the start.”
