ICICI Bank, India-based private sector bank has partnered with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) to launch the ICICI Bank Unifare Bangalore Metro Card.
The new card provides the commuters dual benefits of a credit or debit card and BMRCL’s smart card, called Namma Metro Smart Card.
Co-branded with MasterCard, the card will be embedded with the chip of Namma Metro Smart Card together with the EMV chip of ICICI Bank credit or debit card.
The card, which uses the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, features an auto recharge facility of loading INR200 when the balance drops below INR100 in order to eliminate the need to wait in queues at ticket counters and vending machines.
With this card, commuters will be able to redeem reward points accumulated on their card for free metro rides and also get 15% discount on metro fare.

By GlobalDataIn addition, it also provides benefits such as a 2.5% fuel surcharge waiver across HPCL pumps with transaction swiped on an ICICI Merchant Services’ machine as well as minimum15% discount on dining bills at select restaurants across India.
ICICI Bank executive director Rajiv Sabharwal said: "We are happy to launch the ‘ICICI Bank Unifare Bangalore Metro Card’ in partnership with BMRCL and are confident that this will go a long way in making commuting easier for the people of Bengaluru. We have tied up with metro rail operators for similar cards in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad."
BMRCL MD Pradeep Singh Kharola said: "We aim to provide hassle free travel to our commuters and seamless payment options are an integral part of that proposition. This Unifare card will certainly help commuters to have seamless travel and thus save on their travel time."
