The Greek government has announced plans
to adopt electronic invoicing in 2012 in order to
save more than €3bn annually.
According to news
agency Greek Reporter, shipping minister Mihalis
Chrysohoidis said more than €4bn is being lost annually from
both the state and the enterprises through illegal invoicing
practices and noted that electronic invoicing will effectively
combat such practices.

Chrysohoidis went on to claim e-invoicing can
be 10 times cheaper and offers significant savings to
enterprises where excess money can be used for productive
activities and investments.
The Greek minister noted that all
business-to-government transactions will be made electronically by
the end of the year. This will start with the e-procurement system
and its is hoped it will become exclusively electronic in the first
quarter of 2012.
