Indonesia’s Gojek, which offers ride-hailing, food delivery and payment services, has secured new investment from WhatsApp and PayPal.

The investment was made as part of Gojek ongoing financing round.

However, WhatsApp and PayPal, did not divulge the financial details of their investment.

Founded in 2010, Gojek initially offered ride-hailing services. Gradually, the company expanded its services to enable users make online payments as well as order food and services through a single app.

The app operates in Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and also in the Philippines.

It already counts Google and Tencent among others as its investors.

With the new proceeds, Gojek seeks to strengthen payments and financial services in the region.

In a statement, the company said that its payments business GoPay is working to provide micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with access to digital payment infrastructure.

The payments business processes billions of transactions annually.
