Giesecke + Devrient (G+D) Mobile Security, a German mobile security technology firm, has turned to Zwipe in a bid to develop a biometric payment device.

Under the collaboration, Zwipe will be responsible for the delivery of the technical design and core components for wearable device integration.

G+D will be tasked with customising the product for use as a payment solution.

The product is expected to be trialled with leading banks once complete.

G+D Mobile Security group senior vice-president and head of business unit financial services Gabrielle Bugat said: “We have selected Zwipe because of their proven ability to integrate biometrics with payment functionalities into an extremely space and energy-constrained environment.

“We are confident that this joint effort will help establish new opportunities in the emerging biometric payments marketplace.”
