Payment technology provider Giesecke &
Devrient (G&D) has launched interactive cards to combat
security fears in online banking.
G&D’s latest offerings generate one-time
passwords (OTPs) for online applications that appear on a display
panel embedded within the card. It is claimed access is not granted
until the OTP has been successfully verified and ensures the
cardholder is the person making the transaction in question.

“Security issues are increasingly coming to
the fore in online banking,” said Axel Deininger, head of payment
division at G&D.
“Our new card solutions are designed for
consumers who are looking for enhanced security in an easy-to-use
format.”
OTPs are generated by pressing a
touch-sensitive area on the card’s surface.
