French bank LCL has launched a new service that securely issues payment card PIN codes to customers via SMS texting.
The service will enable cardholders who forget their PIN code when shopping or withdrawing cash can be reminded on the spot.
The bank used a complete software, platform and service solution developed by Gemalto to launch this new service.
The solution is built on Gemalto’s Netsize platform, which offers direct connections to more than 160 mobile operators globally for message delivery.
In a second phase, the bank will be able to save mailing costs and reduce the risk of fraud and stolen PINs by following up the mailing of a new bank card by sending the PIN code by SMS rather than through the post, according to Gemalto.
Gemalto president for Europe, Mediterranean and CIS Philippe Cambriel said, "LCL recognises the mobile channel as a new opportunity to support their continued drive to optimise card activation rates and be the top-of-wallet choice for payment."
