Payment technology company First Data has signed a multi-year agreement with Union Bank that covers debit processing, ATM driving, and card fulfillment output services.

The payments firm is keen to build its three decade partnership with the bank, providing it with efficient and scalable services.

Union Bank senior vice president and head of Retail Deposit Products and Payments Maha Madain said the bank has successfully maintained debit processing in-house for many years and now it partners with First Data to manage the complex processing program with the appropriate tools the bank would need to focus on growing business and servicing customers.

Union Bank has 420 retail branches in California, Washington and Oregon, alongside commercial branches in Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, New York and Chicago, and two international offices.

First Data Financial Services president Barry McCarthy said: "In an ever-changing debit industry, many financial institutions are evaluating their systems and partners for increased efficiency while looking to maintain control of their program. Acting as a consultative partner to Union Bank, First Data will deliver scale and functionality that includes upgrades for EMV, fraud management, and analytics capabilities."
