Payment processing company First Data has
become a member of GlobalPlatform, which manages standards on
secure chip technologies.
GlobalPlatform is taking on board First Data
to take advantage of its experience in payment innovation, the
organisation said.

Christopher Cox, vice president of First Data
Mobile Solutions said that GlobalPlatform membership would allow
them “to contribute to the development of industry leading
specifications related to secure chip technology to ensure security
and interoperability of applications.”
He added that chip-based technologies are
going to play a central role in the global payments infrastructure
as “contactless, mobile and EMV are solutions at the forefront of
industry innovation”.
