Mobile payments company iZettle has announced that its Chip & PIN readers are now on sale at all Maplin stores in the UK and online for £59.99 ($99.28).

The card reader is compatible with major credit and debit cards, including MasterCard, Visa and American Express, and the payment confirmation is secured with customers’ PIN.

Mobile payments are accepted via the combination of a Bluetooth connection and the free iZettle application for smartphone and tablet.

No set up fees or contracts is needed. Transaction fees start at 2.75% and reduce to 1.5% with high sales volumes.

"Maplin is proud to be the first retailer of its kind to bring a ‘pay as you go’ mobile payments device to the UK high street," said spokesperson at Maplin.

"We know that tens of thousands of our customers running their own businesses must have missed out because they have not been able to take card payments."
