The number of credit cards issued in South Korea has dropped below 100 million in February 2014, following major data leak incidents at credit card firms earlier this year.
The recent fall marks the first time since 2008 that the number of credit cards in country dropped below the 100-million mark.
Shinhan Card Co. and six other credit card firms have issued an estimated 99 million credit cards as of the end of February, Yonhap News Agency reported citing industry data.
Meanwhile, the number of debit cards issued in the Asian country is expected to be at 110 million at the end of last month, the data showed.
