Chinese card network China UnionPay (CUP) and
mobile network operator China Mobile have entered into a
partnership to work spur the development of the mobile payments
industry in the country.
Both companies have announced that they will
co-operate to improve technical standards and inter-operability to
enable NFC payments at the point of sale.
They have plans to launch a pilot scheme in
several cities where mobile users can pay using NFC-enabled
technology.
The mobile payment service trial will also
allow customers to connect their bank account with their mobile
phone number and pay credit card bills.
As part the agreement, the companies will test
NFC-enabled phones and a trusted service management platform.
Xi Guohua, China Mobile’s chairman, said that
2012 is an important year of the mobile commerce and that the
company is committed to promote cooperation with the industry as a
whole.
