Boku, a global mobile payment firm, has rolled out direct carrier billing connections with all telecom providers in India, unlocking millions of potential customers for global merchants.
Using Boku’s direct carrier billing based mobile payments capability, merchants across the globe can access a huge market with 1.2 billion people.
India-based merchants can also use Boku’s connections with more than 250 mobile network operators (MNOs) to sell their own goods and services online outside of India using Boku technology.
India is a lucrative market for m-commerce, as it is world’s third largest smartphone subscriber market, with over 117MM smartphone users. The country is rapidly growing as a market for carrier billing due to increase in mobile penetration as well as growing numbers of potential online consumers.
Boku focuses on direct carrier billing-based mobile payments, a type of mobile payment where charges levied online are billed to the users’ wireless phone bill.
The recent launch follows Boku’s acquisition of Qubecell in November 2013, and subsequently their merger, which enabled the company to expand its footprint across key Asian markets.

"Now that our integration is complete we are providing existing Boku merchants – including top social media networks and global games companies — with the very best access to the Indian market."
Boku’s platform supports carrier billing though mobile web as well as via in-app purchases in India.
