Belgium’s BNP Paribas Fortis and telco Belgacom are set to launch a mobile wallet in Belgium.

The mobile wallet is based on an open eco-system and will be accessible to smartphone users with a bank or credit card from any Belgian bank and a mobile data plan from any mobile operator.

According to the partners, the wallet will integrate mobile payments, virtual ticketing, e-couponing and loyalty programs with convenience and security.

The platform will be provided by Accenture and will offer components such as links to payments and loyalty programs, which can be integrated into any mobile app.

The payment component will be based on BNP Paribas Fortis’ MasterPass virtual wallet service, launched by the bank last month.

Trials of the wallet will begin later this year, with a full commercial rollout planned for spring 2014.
