Canadian mobile manufacturer BlackBerry has teamed up with Interswitch, a digital payments and commerce provider, to expanding its mobile payment initiatives into Nigeria.
The partnership will allow BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) users in Nigeria to send money or airtime within BBM, as simply as they transfer photos or files.
In addition, BlackBerry is also looking to expand its BBM Shop payment options by including the Firstmonie mobile wallet, which is offered by First Bank of Nigeria.
Moreover, the company is collaborating with Mobile Media Info Tech (MMIT) to bring secure payments to the BBM Shop.
BlackBerry senior VP for emerging solutions Matthew Talbot in a blog posting said that in Arica, the BBM Shop gets over 20 million views each month and has tallied 60 million total stickers sent and received.
BlackBerry said that it sees close to 10 million visits to the BBM Shop per month, and now over 26 million ad requests per day.
