Blockchain payments provider BitPay has collaborated with Ripple’s Xpring to support XRP cryptocurrency payments through its merchant processing and cross-border transfer platform.
Customers using BitPay Wallet and BitPay Prepaid Card will be able to store and spend XRP via the company’s merchants and businesses.
The new service will be implemented by the end of this year and does not require any integration or enhancements from the customer.
BitPay director of Product Sean Rolland said: “BitPay customers are leveraging the promise of blockchain payment technology and with XRP can offer a payment option that is fast, cost-effective and scalable.
“The addition of XRP as the next blockchain asset supported by BitPay expands blockchain choices across the payments space.”
Xpring was introduced last year to bolster XRP utility and ecosystem. Till date, the company formed more than 20 alliances and agreed to support blockchain companies and products with a total of more than $500m.
