Bitcoin payment processor BitPay has announced the opening of its European headquarters in Amsterdam.

The new office will handle sales, implementation and support to its 7,000 current European merchants, with a goal of growing to 30,000 by the end of the year.

This task has been entrusted to Moe Levin, new European director of Business Development of the company.

Also joining the team in Amsterdam as senior sales engineer is Pieter Poorthuis, who previously managed the implementation of ING’s mobile payment products.

Marcel Roelants, new member of BitPay’s Board of Advisors, said: "As the world of payments is changing rapidly, BitPay is at the forefront offering technology and support to merchants."

This follows the announcement few weeks ago of three other new BitPay office locations in New York, San Francisco and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
