According to BBB, the credit card statements with a charge of $9.84 are sent from an unfamiliar website, which claims to offer customer support. It also promises to refund 100% of a user’s last payment and provides a phone number and email address.

In fact, scammers are charging stolen credit card numbers for a small amount of money, whose value can be changed later on. The amount goes to scammers as many cardholders may not notice the small charge, and the credit card companies are not likely to go after such a minor sum.
Customers have been alerted that if such a charge appears on their statement, it means that their card card information has been compromised, and it’s likely scammers will be back for more amount.
BBB has urged customers to check their credit card statements carefully and report the charges to their banks or credit card issuers, while requesting for a new card.
