British banking group Barclays has completed the launch of its host card emulation (HCE) based mobile payment app, Contactless Mobile, in the UK as an alternative to Android Pay.

Contactless Mobile app allows users to link their Barclays debit card or Barclaycard to their phone to make payments at near-field communication (NFC) enabled payment terminals.

The payments service allow users to make contactless payments up to £100. For making payments of over £30, users will have to enter their card’s PIN into the keypad.

Users require a compatible Android phone with an operating system of 4.4.2 or above, and an eligible Barclays debit card or Visa Barclaycard in order to use Contactless Mobile.

The new app will also allow users to ‘wave and pay’ in shops, restaurants and across the London transport network.
