Through the integration, merchants can accept payments from credit and debit cards, Click to Pay, and digital wallets. The interface also supports non-card alternatives, including Pay by Link and digital invoicing.
Built on a modular application programming interface (API) architecture, the low-code deployment allows businesses to add payment methods without extensive changes to their underlying technical infrastructure. The setup is also designed to deliver “more consistent customer journeys” across sales channels and reduce checkout friction.
The agreement builds on a long-term partnership between Visa and Barclaycard covering payment processing and merchant acquiring services.
Commenting on the rollout, Visa UK & Ireland Value Added Services head Dan Parsons said: “As payments evolve, we want to make it easier for merchants to tap into new innovation without having to rebuild their checkout each time.
“Our Unified Checkout solution helps acquirers and their merchants offer payments to everyone, everywhere with ease. Together with Barclaycard Payments, we’re supporting merchants to futureproof their checkout by giving them access to what’s next as it happens.”
Barclaycard Payments Mid-Corporate head Ben Stagg said: “By bringing Visa’s Unified Checkout solution into Smartpay Fuse, we’re helping merchants through streamlined processes to simplify payment acceptance through a single, future-ready integration that strengthens security, improves visibility and adapts to evolving customer expectations.
“By combining multiple payment experiences into one solution, we’re enabling businesses to deliver more seamless customer journeys, unlock growth opportunities and focus on what matters most, while reinforcing Barclaycard Payments’ commitment to being a trusted partner that helps merchants grow with confidence.”
The integration follows broader digital asset and payment pilots across Visa’s UK network.
Recently, Lloyds Banking Group, in partnership with Visa, completed a live pilot testing stablecoin-based settlement for cross-border transactions.
