UK-based mobile payments firm Bango has collaborated with telecom giant Etisalat Group to deploy Direct Operator Billing (DOB) across Etisalat’s network in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

With this arrangement, Etisalat will offer its subscribers a one-click payment service to make payments for Google Play products on their phone bill, bypassing the need to register personal details.

Bango CEO Ray Anderson said the commitment from one of the world’s highest rated mobile operator groups is a key indication of the importance of Direct Operator Billing to unlocking digital content sales.

"From today, millions of Google Play users can pay for their music, books, movies, games and apps with one-click. We are now working with the Etisalat team to connect the wider range of app stores through the Bango platform and will update on our progress in due course," added Anderson.

The latest partnership is on the back of earlier agreement that saw Etisalat and Bango offering DOB for BlackBerry World.

Etisalat, with the current agreement, will accelerate the deployment of charge to bill payment across tens of millions of Etisalat subscribers, besides providing a massive boost to digital content sales across the region.

Etisalat UAE CMO Khaled ElKhouly said, "Etisalat is keen on introducing services that improve our customers’ smartphone experience. We are very happy to be the first in the region to offer millions of our Android smartphone customers the facility to pay for apps purchased on Google Play through their mobile phone accounts."

Having introduced the service for BlackBerry and Google Play, Etisalat and Bango are planning to soon launch DOB for other app stores such as Amazon, Facebook, Firefox Marketplace, and Windows Phone Store.
