Myanmar-based Ayeyarwady (AYA) Bank’s automated teller machines (ATM) will now accept cash withdrawals from MasterCard and Maestro/Cirrus cards.

With the enhanced offering, the bank will allow users to easily withdraw money at its 69 ATMs and more than 52 branches across the country.

Currently, over 350 ATMs in Myanmar accept MasterCard and Maestro/Cirrus cards. Moreover, MasterCard is accepted for payments at more than 500 restaurants, retail outlets and hotels.

The move by the bank comes before the upcoming 27th Southeast Asian Games to be held in Nay Pyi Taw from 11-22 December 2013.

AYA Bank managing director Phyo Aung was quoted by elevenmyanmar.com as saying that while they are a local bank, they subscribe to global best practices, and they are especially proud to be partners with a global payments expert such as MasterCard to offer ATM cash withdrawals to some of the two billion MasterCard and Maestro/Cirrus cardholders worldwide for whenever they travel to Myanmar.

"As we continue to invest significantly in training and technology, we hope to be able to expand our offerings for our customers in partnership with MasterCard in the near future," Aung added.
