AT&T, an American telecommunications company, is planning to commence trials for a new service to enhance its Location Information Services portfolio, aimed at providing protection against fraud.
The new service is expected to provide the companies with the ability to confirm the location of participating customers when they travel internationally, making financial and mobile transactions safer and easier for AT&T mobile subscribers.
The pilot program, which is made possible through an application program interface (API), will be launched in summer 2014 by deploying the service to its enterprise customers. The new capability of Location Information Services will notify companies about the customers who opt for the service upon arrival in the new country.
AT&T Business Digital Experience vice president Laura Merling said the companies want to get ahead of customer expectations, offer new ways to solve challenges and differentiate from their competitors.
"Our new Location Information Services API does that by allowing enterprises to provide an extra layer of credit card security, keep track of valuable assets, and enhance a traveler’s experience with timely local information," added Merling.
Through this new service, the credit card company could receive confirmation that its customer has traveled to a new country as soon as he/she lands and turns on mobile device, and help the companies in making more informed decisions, such as whether to approve or decline purchases in an international country.
