Ant Financial, an affiliate of e-commerce giant Alibaba, has signed a partnership agreement with Menusifu, a New York-based point-of-sales software developer, to foray into the US restaurant market with its mobile payment app Alipay.

Following the agreement, customers of restaurants equipped with Menusifu’s POS line can pay their bills directly through the Alipay app, which withdraws the check amount from their connected personal bank accounts or credit cards.

With Menusifu’s latest POS software, a unique QR code is generated and printed on each receipt. Diners equipped with the Alipay app on their smartphones can scan the code and pay directly with Chinese digital currency.

Customers will also have the option to split the bill and leave tips within the app, Menusifu said.

“We understand what the dining experience is like in China, and wanted to replicate the bill paying experience in the U.S. for the Chinese consumer,” Menusifu CEO William Wang said.

Menusifu, initially, will implement Alipay within strategically selected restaurants in New York City and California, where there is a high demand for this payment option.
