American Express has upgraded its Blue Cash Preferred credit card with new benefits and cash back offers on day-to-day spending of the users.
Beginning 9 May this year, both new and existing cardholders will get 6% cash back on certain streaming subscriptions in the US.
Users will also receive 3% cash back on transit, along with 6% on transactions at US supermarkets and 3% cash back at US gas stations that are currently linked to the Blue Cash Preferred credit card.
After 31 July this year, the card will stop offering 3% cash back on purchases at select US department stores, and will instead provide 1% cash back.
In addition, the card will offer 1% cash back on other transactions. The cash back can be redeemed for a statement credit.
American Express vice-president of US consumer lending and acquisition Kunal Madhok said: “Since we launched the Card in 2011, our card members’ buying habits have evolved, which is why we’re evolving the Card too.

By GlobalData“We’re adding the ability for card members to earn rewards in even more innovative ways, from streaming their favourite shows at home, to commuting to their office the next morning.”
The company upgraded the card based on customer insights from a survey, which revealed that day-to-day spending for groceries, streaming and commuting among Millennials has increased from the last five years.
In addition to the new benefits, the company also equipped the card with contactless payment capability.
