American Express (Amex), in collaboration with Facebook, has unveiled its latest messenger ‘bot’ that will enable its cardholders to receive real-time purchase alerts and important information about benefits related to their purchases.

The Amex Bot, as it is called, was showcased at the Cannes-Lions Innovation festival in France. Amex Bot users will receive all the notifications through Facebook Messenger.

The company will start piloting the application among the eligible cardholders and OPEN customers in the US in the coming months.

Elaborating the working methodology of the new messenger bot, Amex said if a Platinum card member purchases an airline ticket from Las Vegas to New York City, he or she would receive a purchase notification in messenger.

The proposed users will also receive a helpful reminder about how to access The Centurion Lounge at the airport, as well as restaurant recommendations, courtesy of The Infatuation, for the upcoming trip.

American Express vice president of digital partnerships & development Dave Wolf said: "As a long-time partner of Facebook, we’re thrilled to be working together to create an innovative experience for our Card Members on Messenger.

"We know our Card Members appreciate the convenience of receiving information from Amex on digital platforms where they’re already spending time.

"The concept demoed today shows how we could help them stay on top of their purchases and take advantage of their Card benefits. The scale and flexibility of the Messenger platform makes it a powerful channel for us to explore new ways to connect with Card Members."
