American Express has partnered with Virgin Australia to offer a credit card with no annual fee. The card will carry the airlines loyalty program ‘Velocity Frequent Flyer’ and customers will earn two Velocity-points per Australian Dollar spent.
The two companies claim that the product will shake up the Australian travel rewards card market because customers will no longer need to pay an annual credit card fee in order to earn rewards. Points can be used on Virgin Australia flights and on any of its partners flights; Etihad Airways, Delta Air Lines, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand.

Customers will also be offered 7,500 bonus Velocity points when they sign up for the service, the equivalent of a one way Melbourne to Sidney flight (550 miles).
Rachel Stocks, American Express head of consumer products, said: “Travel remains the most popular choice of reward for American Express Cardmembers.”
The card bears similarities to one offered by Virgin Atlantic and American Express in the UK where customers receive 1 Flying Club mile for every British Pound spent with no annual fee.
