China’s UnionPay has signed a deal with Saudi Arabia’s Alinma Bank under which all ATMs and merchants of the bank will accept UnionPay cards.

The deal makes Alinma the first Saudi Arabian bank to accept UnionPay cards.

The two companies also agreed to cooperate in issuing UnionPay cards for the purpose of providing secure and convenient payment services for local consumers.

As per the deal, Alinma will enable UnionPay card acceptance at over 9,000 point-of-sale terminals and over 1,000 ATMs across the country.

UnionPay said that currently it has presence in 11 countries and regions in the Middle East, among which all POS terminals in UAE, 50% of all merchants and 40% of all ATMs in Qatar accept UnionPay cards.

The Chinese company, which footprint in 150 countries, added that it has full coverage in Jordan, and its acceptance in Turkey and Israel is also growing. It has also issued cards in Qatar and Jordan.
