ACI Worldwide, CARDNET partner on digital payments in Japan

ACI Worldwide has reached an agreement with Japan Card Network, CARDNET to streamline its digital payments system across Japan.

CARDNET, the central domestic payment chain in Japan, currently handles over 30 billion of transactions locally per year.

It also offers card payment switching solutions to 106 businesses in Japan as well as more than 889,000 point of sale gateways to Japanese traders.

As part of the new agreement, ACI Worldwide is set to work together with CARDNET to offer modern digital payments technology and tools to the latter’s clients.

The modernised system is expected to allow CARDNET to meet the increasing customer demands.

CARDNET customers will also have access to improved digital payment offerings for use in both local and cross-border markets.

ACI Worldwide APAC managing director Leslie Choo said: “CARDNET has taken a great leap forward in its digital payments journey and we are excited to be part of the drive to modernise its payments architecture and the Japanese payments ecosystem.

“As Asia’s digital payments networks become increasingly interconnected, having the right technology, collaboration, and shared vision will be key to staying ahead and providing unrivalled customer convenience.”

In November last year, ACI Worldwide formed an alliance with American buy now, pay later (BNPL) fintech platform Affirm.

The partnership seeks to enable US merchants to provide additional pay-over-time choice to consumers.
