The Armenian Card payment system (ArcA) has
announced March 2011 saw an 11.1% rise in cards issued in the
country when compared to the same point the previous year.
According to ARKA news agency, the number of
cards issued reached 31,617 in March alone. There was a 31.3% rise
in the number of ArcA branded cards issued – taking its total to
11,554 and 10,218 new Visa cards were issued – an increase of 35.9%
from March 2010.
Despite the increases in ArcA and Visa cards,
MasterCard saw its level of issuance in Armenia drop by 18.8% when
compared to March 2010, coming in at just 9,845.
The overall number of active cards in the
country is said to stand at 609,000, 26.2% higher than March 2010.
The number of card used to make transactions shot to 409,719 from
322,732 year-on-year – 241,398 were ArcA cards, a 17.8% growth,
108,286 were Visa cards (up 43.3%) and 60,035 were MasterCard cards
– a growth of 42%.
