Two more banks are to launch MasterCard’s LCD
display cards that show the consumer their balance and can generate
one-off passwords for internet purchases.

The two banks in question are Romanian lenders
Credit Europe Bank and Carpatica Bank.

They follow in the footsteps of BNP Paribas’
Turkish subsidiary TEB in 2010, which was the first to launch an
LCD display card.

The MasterCard Display Card has
touch-sensitive buttons which generates one-time passwords for
online purchases, shows the account balance and transaction
history.

Fikret Ates, head of added value solutions at
MasterCard, said that there had been “overwhelmingly positive”
feedback from banks and customers.

Etem Birinci, vice president of Credit Europe
Bank, said that the launch of the card was part of the bank’s
retail banking distribution strategy.

“By rolling out this new MasterCard solution,
we are pursuing our strategy to boost alternative retail
distribution channels and provide next generation solutions to the
public,” Birinci said.
