INSIDE Secure said it has shipped 20 million NFC chips in the
past 12 months with 10 million of those having been
distributed in the past three months.
The semiconductor manufacturer also said that
its chips will be used by “a leading phone maker on a major mobile
platform” – as it seeks to build interest in its renewed IPO.
As yet Inside has not named the telco that
will be using their NFC chips, but has indicated that the company
is planning to introduce an NFC-enabled smartphone by mid-2012,
which will incorporate Inside’s MicroRead chip and software
stack.
The deal will allow users of the smartphone to
make payments at stores or on public transport and call a taxi by
tapping smart tags in posters.
INSIDE said it will announce further news
mid-year when the smartphone is intended to be launched.
