Australian online payment gateway eWay is reportedly set to foray into physical world by launching mobile payment terminals to ward off competitors.
eWay will offer mobile payment device terminals provided by Quest and Mint Payments to its existing 20,000 business customers, Australian Financial Review has reported.
The new mobile payment device, which is available for free, will integrate payments with inventory and customer databases.
The payment devices will initially connect to accounting invoicing software Xero, inventory recording system Shopify and customer data system SalesForce, the report said.
The company’s founder and owner Matt Bullock said: "If you look at most of the MPOS devices out there, they just do the payment and that’s all they do. We link to Xero, Shopify and SalesForce to start with.
"You link the invoice, product and the customer data together – it will update each of those databases in real time," the publication quoted Bullock as saying.
