Unicredit Bank in Russia has deployed Gemalto’s Optelio Contactless Sticker to convert any handset without built-in contactless features into a secure contactless payment device.
Certified by the International Payment Associations, Gemalto’s payment sticker is part of its comprehensive range of products and services.
Through this deal, UniCredit Bank will migrate its entire banking card portfolio to contactless EMV.
According to Gemalto, the stickers will be issued to any current account holder opened with UniCredit Bank in Russia.
Currently, there are approximately 20,000 NFC-enabled terminals in Moscow alone and, with the addition of the user’s PIN, the stickers will also support transactions worth over RUB1,000 (EUR20).
ZAO UniCredit Bank operations channels department head, Alexander Vishnyakov, said: "We are extremely satisfied with how Gemalto managed the migration of our card portfolio to contactless EMV, so they are the natural choice of partner for the new payment stickers.
