Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is set to add Apple Pay support for its customers, allowing them to pay by just waving their Apple iPhone and watch at a contactless terminal.
Scheduled to be rolled out this month, Apple Pay can be used to pay in-store, in app and online with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch.
Once launched, BNZ will be the second bank after Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) to offer the Apple’s contactless payment service in New Zealand. ANZ introduced Apple Pay in New Zealand last year.
In a statement, BNZ said: “Make sure you’re ready for Apple Pay by applying for a BNZ Flexi Debit Visa or BNZ Advantage Visa credit card today.”
BNZ cards eligible for Apple Pay include BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum, BNZ Advantage Visa Classic, BNZ Advantage Visa Business, BNZ Flexi Debit Visa, BNZ Lite Visa, BNZ Visa Classic and BNZ Visa Platinum.
Apple Pay does not store users’ credit or debit card details on their devices; instead a unique code is generated when paying for the item. iPhones and watches taps near-field communication (NFC) technology to connect to the terminal and make the payment.
