Barclays’ Pingit now available for all UK account holders
At the launch of the service, Pingit was only available for Barclays customers, but in March the bank had said that it would expand the service to all bank accounts. Now, one month behind schedule, Barclays has opened up Pingit for all UK account holders, enabling those who download the app to send money using just the recipients phone number without sharing account details
Javelin: Prepaid cards rise in popularity
The market for prepaid debit cards is still large and growing fast, according to Javelin Strategy & Research. Thirteen percent of American consumers had prepaid cards in 2011 compared with 11% in 2010, the Prepaid Cards and Products in 2012: Enabling Financial Access for Underbanked and Gen Y Consumers found. The rise in prepaid cards is parallel to the decline in traditional banking products, such as credit and debit cards.
New Brazilian credit card offers 200 instalments

NewNet: Elavon’s new partner in Brazil
Third-party processor Elavon is partnering with payment tech firm NewNet to penetrate the growing Brazilian market. Elavon will be supported by NewNet’s solution portfolio which includes the Total Control 1000 (TC1000) dial gateway and AccessGuard platforms. Elavon says this high-speed transaction network has the capacity to handle several million transactions annually.

Nigeria 2013: countdown to biometric ATMs and PoS
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced its intention to implement biometric identification technology at the POS terminals and ATMs by 2013. The CBNs Acting Director Gaius Emokpae unveiled the plans during a seminar organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
