Mastercard is rolling out a series of enhancements to Mastercard In Control, its virtual card platform. Specifically, it is introducing stronger controls and expanded ecosystem connectivity designed to help businesses scale virtual card programs more securely and efficiently.

Mastercard In Control enhancements include:

  • New Issuer Enforced Controls, which allow issuers to establish guardrails such as spend limits, transaction caps and validity periods when virtual cards are created.
  • Enhanced Clearing Controls that extend validation into the clearing stage to improve oversight and policy management.
  • New Commercial Connect API enhancements that simplify integration and help customers scale virtual card capabilities through a more unified experience.
  • Continued expansion of Mastercard’s embedded payments ecosystem through partners including HSBC, SAP and others.

The initiative builds on growing adoption of virtual cards globally and Mastercard’s expanding ecosystem of issuers, platforms and corporates. Mastercard’s VCN ecosystem now includes issuers, direct platforms and corporates transacting across 43 countries and 174 currencies, underscoring its ability to support global expansion while maintaining consistency and oversight.
