DBS has launched a “tap-to-phone” feature that allows businesses to accept credit and debit card payments using an Android smartphone.
The capability enables eligible devices to function as payment terminals, allowing merchants to take in-person payments without an additional point-of-sale device.

The service is available through the DBS MAX app.
In a statement, DBS said it is the first Singapore bank to offer this functionality. The lender said the launch gives merchants more ways to accept payments amid “growing demand for cashless transactions”.
With tap-to-phone enabled, customers can tap a physical or contactless card on a merchant’s smartphone running DBS MAX to complete a transaction. The feature also supports NFC-based mobile payment options, including Apple Pay, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet.
DBS said merchants can manage multiple digital payment acceptance options within a single app. These include contactless card acceptance and QR code payments via DBS PayLah! and PayNow.
The bank also said the feature can help merchants accept payments from additional customer segments, including overseas visitors who prefer card payments or do not use certain digital wallets.
DBS Global Transaction Services Cash Product Management group head Tesy Mathew said: “Amid a dynamic business landscape, the ability to streamline operations and reach more customers are key components to build more resilient businesses. Convenient, secure and reliable payments and collections form the bedrock of any merchants’ operations.
“With ‘tap-to-phone’, we are thrilled to add a new collection mode to the DBS MAX app. Businesses can transact in a more efficient and cost-effective manner and scale confidently to capture new opportunities. Retail customers benefit too, as they now have more avenues to use their preferred contactless payments across Singapore.”
