By incorporating Bre-B into its Direct Global Network, Thunes continues to assist central banks and regulatory authorities in the modernisation of national payment systems and the broadening of access to financial products.

According to Thunes, Bre-B enables businesses and people to conduct immediate financial transactions any time, connecting accounts from various banks, digital wallets, cooperatives, as well as fintech companies.

Since its official launch on 6 October 2025, the service has seen uptake, with 76% of Colombia’s adult population having enrolled.

Thunes noted that it is among the inaugural worldwide payment platforms to facilitate cross-border transactions with Colombia’s new national system in real-time, enhancing the reach of transactions for its Direct Global Network participants and their customers.

Despite the prevalence of cash transactions in Colombia, which account for nearly 78%, the nation is experiencing a swift shift towards digital finance, Thunes added.

With a high rate of bank account ownership at more than 92% and a growing adoption of mobile wallets, Colombia is said to be on its way to establishing a digitally-oriented economic landscape.

Thunes COO and president Chloé Mayenobe said: “Across the world, Thunes is deeply engaged in building and connecting real-time payment systems that enable people and businesses to move money instantly, securely, and transparently.

“We greatly value the vision and leadership of central banks, like Colombia’s, that are driving innovations to make financial systems more inclusive and interoperable. Together with Bre-B, we’re helping to power Colombia’s participation in the real-time global economy and set a new benchmark for interoperable payments in the region.”
