Halifax, a subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group, has rolled out card freezing option for its credit card customers.

The newly launched functionality will enable cardholder to ‘freeze’ their card through the app when lost.

They can also ‘unfreeze’ the credit card through the app if they find the card.

The freezing option will enable the customers to prevent possible misuse of their card when lost or misplaced.

Furthermore, the ‘Card Freeze’ option provides additional control over credit card usage allowing only specific transactions approved by the cardholder.

While ‘Freeze Card’ stops all card based transactions, ‘Freeze abroad’ option allows customers to stops all transactions outside of the UK.

The customer can also stop all transactions where the card is not physically present by selecting ‘Freeze online and remote’.

Conversely, they can choose to prevent transactions where the card is present by selecting the ‘Freeze at tills and terminals’ option.

The Halifax credit card customers can switch on the ‘Freeze at cash machine’ option to stop cash machine withdrawals.

All these features can be managed from the card management area of the mobile app.

The latest move follows the launch of similar features for the debit card customers in August 2018.

Halifax managing director of consumer finance Elyn Corfield said: “Through our new mobile banking app functionality, Halifax customers can enjoy greater confidence that their cards are safe and now have more options to manage their day to day finances through freezing and unfreezing spending on their credit card, giving them extra peace of mind.”
