The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore is set to launch a new system that will enable commuters to use contactless bank cards for booking tickets on public transport.
Dubbed SimplyGo, the service is scheduled to go live on 4 April 2019.
Once operational, the system will eliminate the need to carry a separate travel card for making payments.
Also, the new system will enable users to register on the TransitLink SimplyGo Portal and track their travel expenditures.
The portal can be accessed online and through the TL SimplyGo mobile app.
At the outset, the service will support all Mastercard contactless bank cards. LTA expects Visa to be part of SimplyGo by later this year.

By GlobalDataLTA senior group director for public transport Yeo Teck Guan said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of SimplyGo and the full acceptance of Mastercard on public transport.
“SimplyGo widens the range of payment options available to commuters. Users will be able to tap in and out with their contactless cards, and also use mobile devices linked to Mastercard.”
LTA has already carried out a pilot of the contactless public transport ticketing system. All participants of the pilot can continue to use the same Mastercard for SimplyGo.
Other users are not required to pre-register their Mastercard contactless card users.
By the end of the year, commuters can also upgrade their existing travel cards to avail SimplyGo service.
