Dubai is one step closer to realising
self-service ticketing using chip and PIN cards across its 49 Metro
stations as payment technology provider Hypercom’s payment systems
and terminals have received full EMV certification.
Hypercom’s Artema Modular self-service payment
systems and Artema Compact countertop terminals are designed to
bring speed ticketing to Dubai’s four million Metro passengers per
month. The EMV certification of the technology solutions is claimed
to mean that travellers on Dubai’s urban railway network will be
able to use their chip and PIN cards in a secure transaction.

“This latest certification reinforces our
leadership position in self-service payment technology, our
leadership in metro and rail ticketing systems, and brings new
levels of speed and convenience to hundreds of thousands of
travelers,” said Brian J Stobo, vice president for the Middle East
and Africa at Hypercom Europe.
Hypercom’s products were chosen by security
software company Thales, the integrator in charge of the Dubai
Metro fare collection system.
