Payment card fraud is the prime concern for
consumers in UK, ahead of concerns over physical security – such as
terrorism – says IT services firm Unisys’ security index.
 

The bi-annual report claims bank security
concerns “soared” in the last year with 92% of respondents claiming
they are worried about bank fraud and 91% concerned with ID
theft.

This is compared to 63% of respondents that
voiced their anxiety over physical security – notably terrorism –
at the London 2012 Olympics.

Citing figures from fraud prevention service
CIFAS, the study notes that 102,500 cases of bank card fraud were
identified in 2010, with many more cases not being reported.

Neil Fisher, vice president of global security
services with Unisys, said these are “alarming findings”.

“Knee-jerk approaches to managing security
clearly aren’t working, as the index rate in the UK reflects,” said
Fisher.

global study that aims to provide insight into the attitudes of
consumers on a wide range of security related issues. This latest
study surveyed 953 people in the UK.
